There have been many technological advancements over recent years, that have made the creation of signage for those who are visually impaired a much easier process. This is due to the use of automated marking devices that are connected to transcription software, making the process much smoother.

Signage for visually impaired people takes the form of signs that have tactile designs and/or braille text that be felt by hand. They are commonly used outside restrooms and public recreational facilities.

Transcription software is especially useful when creating braille signs as the software makes use of automatic translation features. Braille is not a universal language, each country has its own version which needs to be accounted for when creating the signs.

Wood, metal or plastic materials are often used for tactile signage. The materials used are sanded down and made soft to touch, so they can be safely felt by hand.
