How To Prepare a Work Space Before Soldering

Soldering is a process which joins two metal segments into one piece. It is done using a soldering torch and a softer metal as an adhesive. Before starting any soldering work, it’s crucial that the work space is prepared beforehand.

Organising a Work Space

Place tile on the surface you wish to work on, then place a fire brick on top of the tile. Next place the soldering torch and tools in a space around the tile. Make sure that any flammable items are cleared from the area, and if necessary use heat shields to protect exposed surfaces and other nearby items.

Sand and Clean The Metals

Put on protective gloves, goggles and an apron, then use sandpaper to smooth down the edges of the metals that are going to be joined. Be sure not to completely sand down the metals, as the bond will be stronger if the edges are slightly rough.
