Can I Use My Cricut For Engraving?

Posted on April 20, 2021 at 8:07 am

One of our most commonly asked questions with regards to Cricut makers is whether or not they can be used for engraving. Well, we are happy to tell you today that YES, your Cricut maker can be used for engraving you just need the right tools and materials!

What Tool Do I Need To Engrave With My Cricut?
Simply, you need to purchase the Cricut Engraving tool, which can also be known as an engraving tip. This is a tool that allows you to begin your engraving career using your Cricut machine. The circuit engraving tool is a sharp metal tip that allows you to etch designs into your chosen material.

What Materials Can The Cricut Maker Engrave?
When using the Engraving Tip, your Cricut maker can engrave a large selection of materials. Some of these include:
– Acrylic
– Copper
– Aluminum
– Leather
– Soft Metals
– Kraft Board

How About Engraving Glass?
While the Cricut Maker with the Engraving Tip attached can currently not engrave glass there is a way around this. You can create a stencil with your circuit machine. Then use glass etching cream to engrave this into the glass item you wish to engrave.

How To Use The Cricut Engraving Tool
Using a new tool can be a daunting process, so we are going to share with you a few simple tips for using this tool for the first time.

Firstly, you will need to ensure that the linetype for the image you wish to use is set to engrave. This means your Cricut maker will know that you wish to engrave rather than cutting through the material.

It works the same as any other tool, that you choose your design, choose your linetype and go! But with this tool, we will always recommend that you have a practice run on a piece of scrap. It can take time to perfect the use of this tool and we would hate for you to ruin the main piece.

Engraved Wedding Rings with Fingerprint

Posted on March 30, 2018 at 8:33 am

When people refer to having their wedding rings engaged, it often means they’re having their name and date added to the back of the ring in a nice and clean font. That’s the case for most people, however, there are some different options to choose from, and it’s all thanks to today’s technology. What more couples are doing, is adding their fingerprint to the back of the ring. You simply have your finger print scanned, and then it’s made into a print, which can be engraved on the inside or the outside of your wedding ring, crafted in any chosen precious metal, style and width combination, with or without additional characters. It’s a really cool thing to do but you can also get more creative and engrave a heart shape, styled from both the bride and groom’s fingerprints across a wedding ring set of similar widths. This works really well and it will certainly wow your friends and family members, whilst making for perfect addition to your Instagram feed!

There’s also the commercial aspect, so companies requiring personalised gifts for their clients, and they may even be ordering 100 at a time too. We’re sure an engraver’s workplace is probably a bit like Santa’s factory in the build up to Christmas, but at the end of the day, you can only take on as much worse as you need or require. You have to have some downtime too, and make sure you finish up a few days before Christmas. Just let your clients know when your last day of work is so they can get their orders in early, and pair up with another factory should work demands be too big!

The Differences Between Laser Marking and Laser Engraving

Posted on July 31, 2017 at 5:10 pm

Laser marking and engraving processes are widely used by manufacturers and fabricators. These processes are used to mark an accurate design onto a material by altering its surface. However, there are several differences that separate laser marking and laser engraving techniques.

Laser Marking

Laser marking is carried out by moving a low-powered beam of light across a material. The beam is moved slowly, using a process called discolouration. This creates marks that stand out visually on the material, without disrupting it physically.

Laser Engraving

Laser engraving also creates designs by using a beam of light, however, it differs from laser marking in that the material is vaporised with each pulse of the beam. This means that the material is physically engraved, not just surface marked.

There are three main types of laser engraving: Etching, deep laser engraving and laser ablation. The difference between these are the materials that they can be used on and how much is removed in the engraving process.

The Features of a Desktop Laser Engraver

Posted on May 27, 2017 at 4:28 pm

One of the best ways to make laser engravings is by using a compact desktop laser engraver. Desktop laser engravers are smaller versions of the free-standing machines and allow for smaller, high quality engravings to be made on a variety of different surfaces.

Desktop engravers are often used for both professional as well as personal use. They are recommended for beginners who are getting started in the craft of engraving as they are straightforward to use and easy to handle. The price tag of a desktop engraver is also at a good level for those looking to buy their first personal machine.

Desktop Laser Engravers often come equipped with a V4 control system which allows for one-click engraving settings to be used. They also come with a selection of stepper motors and are compatible with multiple types of control software.

Certain engravers also feature hidden fasteners which offer more free space around the sculpture area, which is especially useful for the handheld nature of a desktop machine.
